Aly Shea

Digital Marketing & Engagement Producer //
CU Boulder Office of Advancement

Something I’ve noticed from the beginning about you is that you’re incredibly hardworking and very thoughtful. I appreciate how I can trust that your work will get done efficiently and flawlessly. You’re very reliable in that sense! It’s cool to read your story and see that working hard and taking pride in your work has always been instilled in you – it definitely shows!

As a leader, I see you as a structured, organized planner on top of being very collaborative. It goes hand-in-hand! It’s easy to collaborate and get resources from someone who has it together. I think this was definitely evidenced with The Herd. As difficult of a project as that could be, you never had any shortage of ideas or pointers for that social presence. I think that while there was a lot of difficulty managing that group, you did your best and always remained professional. Sometimes, you can’t collaborate with people that don’t want to hold up their end, and that’s okay! Plus, you basically held down the fort on my position until I got in, and even taught me how to do certain things. That in and of itself is pretty amazing!

My hopes for you in the future are that you have the ability to exercise your leadership skills and truly act as a mentor. I’d love to see you be able to strategize an entire campaign from start to finish (for whatever company you end up working with) that tells the story of a brand. I think you do have those skills to be creative yet organized to see something big through to the end.

I really value what my boss at the CU Boulder Alumni Association (now, the Office of Advancement) said in her review of my ePortfolio. Aly was (and still is, though I'll no longer work for this office after graduation) a fantastic person for me to learn from, with things related to our digital marketing/social media field and otherwise. Our time working together was unique in that the woman who hired me for the job I had (Social and Digital Media Intern) left her position--Aly was hired for the role and I was able to stay on through the bit of time without a person in Aly's role and just under one year with Aly. Our first few interactions consisted of me helping to introduce her to how we did things at the office and coordinating how we may change various processes. I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked with Aly and appreciate her feedback on my leadership as represented in this portfolio and visible in the time I worked with her! As I discuss throughout this portfolio, collaboration is incredibly important to me; considering the way our boss/intern relationship began and continued, I agree that collaboration was crucial to our success as a team. I hope that I am able to be a mentor to people in the way Aly was for me!
